So Naomi Wolf is dishing over at Oprah's site now (link via Bookshelves of Doom) and spreading the word of the dumbing down of America's girls. Meanwhile, Cecily von Ziegesar has the Spotlight in the new issue of Vanity Fair (with the amazing green cover and an outstanding essay by Al Gore - more to follow on this later). It turns out that Ms. von Ziegesar is now a "brand". With the new book in the Gossip Girls series coming out this month (Only in Your Dreams) she has turned a corner. The author is now plotting and revising her titles but not doing the actual writing. She has over two million copies in print and has this to say about the sexual intrigue, partygoing and lack of morals:

"I don't think of the books as children's books. I try to write what I would like to read."

Two million copies in print - I don't think even joining forces with Oprah (who I love btw because she donates a zillion dollars to people who need it) is going to help Naomi stop this train. (And who the hell is that "Dr. Robin" who says "these books are dangerous in many ways." '[They] are defining for girls who they are, making them think they're choosing it, and then profiting off of the demise of a whole generation of girls and women'.")

Does she really think a 15 year old is thinking that hard about these books? Can someone please tell me what Flowers in the Attic did to me when I was young, cause I sure don't remember a redfinition of heart and soul. (God did it happen without me realizing?)
