In reponse to demand (well, Gwenda and Heather's demands anyway) I can send you to a picture of Hondo. This is the humane society where we got him. Scroll halfway down and you will see Hondo and one of his littermates. (They are the only puppies on the page.) Hondo is on the right; he's black and creme/white.

And in case you are wondering, the name is courtesy my brother who seems to end up naming all of my dogs. Hondo is one of the best John Wayne movies ever, based on an equally wonderful Louis L'Amour story. If you like westerns, you need to check it out.

At some point I will figure this picture posting nonsense to my site. But don't rush me - I'm still categorizing all my old entries!

Awww! Puppy! SO cute. And lucky to go to such a good home.

What Gwenda said. I have been thinking a lot recently about how much I would like to have a dog, only it is totally impractical, I cannot do it. Which is a great pity--in many ways my life is well suited, I am either working at home or else my office is 2 blocks away & teaching is fairly flexible, there would be time to come home and walk the dog even when I was very busy; but I travel for work at least 4-5 long weekends every year, and I need to be able to go elsewhere for a sabbatical year if I get a fellowship & sublets are hard enough to find without pets, and also I don't have a car & I think you cannot take normal-sized dogs on the public transportation I use when I go to Philadelphia for holidays. Oh, but it's giving me a pang thinking about it--at least now that I'm home again I have my LOVELY cat back with me, he was at my mom's house this whole year while I was in Cambridge and it made me very, very unhappy not having an animal in the house....
