Gary Paulsen was always a big seller in the bookstore I worked at in Fairbanks and Hatchet is one of his all-time best. I'm glad to see that its lessons were taken to heart by Michael Auberry when he was lost.
My favorite part of the article though is this bit from another YA fan:
"The meaning of this book," reads a child's review on Amazon.com, "was not to show how to survive on an island if your plane crashes. It shows how to be strong no matter how difficult life gets."

Hey Colleen,
Gary Paulson couldn't get higher praise or a more wonderful news clip to read than this story. To think that his book made a real difference to this boy's survival, wow. And right on to that kid reviewing about being strong no matter what life hits you with. We adults know that's the one true thing...
