Nik from Books2Prisoners just sent me a note that they have received some books from folks and very much appreciate the boxes thus far. Unfortunately the mail boxes place where they were receiving their mail has gone out of business. They have gotten another box down the road, and wanted anyone still planning to send a box for NOLA kids to that new address. I've updated my original post on all this, but just in case you are getting ready to ship, please make sure you note this address:
Books 2 Prisoners
1631 Elysian Fields PO Box #117
New Orleans, LA 70117
They are hoping any boxes in transit (like mine is) will be forwarded. As Nik puts it though "stuff is really slow down here" so, it's possible something might get kicked back. If you do have a box returned please know it is not their fault. This is just more New Orleans stupidness, and we all need to be flexible and remember that the kids are what matters most.
The other thing we discussed in emails is that they are still desperately looking for books that focus on African American characters. They are wondering what publishers they should try to contact for donating ARCs, etc. for the kids and I thought I would ask all of you if you had any ideas. I'm going to do a bit of surfing for agent names for well known African American YA authors and pass those names and addresses along to Nik so they can send request letters there. If you know anything, please send it my way.
And don't forget the Powells list with all those cheap used copies! Just use my email (colleenatchasingraydotcom) to search for a friend's list here, and then when ordering use the new address above.

Ooh! I hope my box gets there too. I sent a good one. It even had a couple of books with African American characters.
